The wildly  popular, Mad Men, recently premiered on the AMC channel. I was given the opportunity to work with actors for the season 5 premiere party. My team and I did the hair and makeup for these actors in the spirit of Mad Men. Today I was excited to be invited to join Mixed Chicks co-founders and hair care innovators Kim Etheredge and Wendi Levy for an intimate brunch to view their latest products, including the Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner, HIS Mix for Men, Mixed Chicks Kids line, the Mixed Chicks Ceramic Straightening Collection and more!

The brunch featured an Expert Curl & Straightening Station with advice for all hair types, Summer Hair Trend Forecasting and the complete line of Mixed Chicks Products.

Anyone with curly hair should know about the amazing ability to define and defrizz curly hair. I’m interested to see if their Men’s, straightening, and their kids products hold up to the incredibly high bar set by their original curly hair products. I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

Warm weather is popping its head in and out of NYC and what better way to celebrate than with an editorial shoot just for you.  We headed to Far Rockaway beach with a palette of light peaches and pinks in this flirty, fresh photoshoot.  Think sheer, think sexy, think Spring! Monae's hair non relaxed

Q: I’ve been natural for a year & for some reason my ends are really thin. Do u have any tips on getting my ends back thick?

A: Great question. Congratulations on deciding not to relax your hair. While that isn’t the best decision for everyone, I am excited for you. Now to your question.

Many people feel that their ends are thinner while they are transitioning from relaxed to non relaxed hair. This can be not only due to breakage but also a comparable difference from your relaxed ends to your non relaxed roots (which always appear thinker). Unfortunately you can not “thicken” your ends.

A way to deal with this is to trim as much of your hair as you are comfortable. This will help you to transition to non relaxed hair with less breakage. You can also try protective styles such as braids, cornrows, weaves, wigs, etc to cover your hair. This way your hair will continue to grow and help you to achieve your desired length with less breakage.

A couple of nights ago it happened… my favorite contestant from “The Biggest Loser” was sent home. I, unlike many, grew to love Conda this season. She was a great competitor and a threat to the other contestants. So I was excited when I got a chance to work with her a few weeks ago when the show traveled to DC to work out with the first lady Mrs. Michelle Obama. These photos are from our time together.
